Hey Charlie, how do you get people to open up/participate more if they are answering with short one word answers or not really engaging by asking you any questions?

A good tactic is to say “It seems like….”

So if they’re giving you short answers and you detect they are distracted, you can say “It seems like you’re distracted. Is everything okay?”

Or if they don’t sound like they love their job and that’s why they’re giving short answers, you might say “It seems like you’re not too crazy about your job.”

This kind of labeling often prompts people to open up, especially if you’ve accurately described their emotion

    Hey Charlie,
I am not so sure how to create a bait for this because
I think I kind of mixed “making art” and “risk taking” together.

This is what I got after a long struggle:
    Me: (Hook)

    They: (Positive response)

Me: “So you know how the first few iteration of most designs are most certainly going to be bad, so the trial and errors process often requires me to put down my ego and allow myself to fail, and that made me realize how important making art is because my proudest works are usually the result of me conquering my ego and fully expressing myself.”

    Thank you!

I actually think it’s good. The one thing it needs is a bit of specificity to make it concrete. So give us a short example, maybe something like

(“Like this one design that I thought was perfect actually turned out to be terrible once I got other people’s opinion. But it was so hard for me to accept that because I was so invested. When I finally accepted that I had to make some major changes and put down my ego, I wound up creating something that I was much prouder of”)
